5 WARDROBE ESSENTIALS TO ROCK YOUR FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION
Whether you are borrowing from the photographer’s client closet, pulling from your own, or making a new purchase…
Here are 7 essential tips to keep in mind when styling your own family outfits!
1 Coordinate
The days of the matchy-match are GONE.
Instead, we want to compliment one another by coordinating a good color palette that jives with your photographer’s brand and style!
2 TEXTURE + Patterns!
Although we don’t want to overwhelm the images with clashing patterns we can absolutely spice it up a little.
Bringing visual interest to the imagery and the beautiful subjects (you) with items like
knits, velvets, ruffles, fringe, linens, lace, stripes, checkers, or other patterns are a total plus!
3 Inspired by Movement
Movement is a sure way to evoke all the emotions. It really brings life to the imagery.
This can be an easy and sure way to enhance each individual’s personality!
scarves
hats
belts
belly beads
baby wraps
hair wraps
jewelry
beanies or widebrims
flowy or texture chunk sweaters YOU NAME IT!
4 feel good props
as a personal preference I tend to stay away from a “prop” type of look.
However. I still add in a lot of fun activities or pieces to make the session fun!
This can look like, blankets, ukulele, mirrors, flowers, wooden toys, skateboards, motorcycles, bicycles, even beer!
But my favorite of all time is nature. THE use of our surroundings in its natural environment will forever be my go to prop, activity, or muse.
5 Comfort is key
Sure we want to look super rad, but if you don’t feel comfortable I can guarantee it will show!
Feeling most at ease is the best route.
So if you are not into ruffles don’t put it on!
If you want more coverage in your arms add a kimono or chunky knit sweater or pick a dress with good sleeves.
We want to be stylish but practical enough that you can move with comfort.
too short. too tight. too revealing. whatever your comfort level threshold sits.
